I have a tank full of odds and sods … basically fish that for whatever reason don’t fit into my other tanks … it consists of 10 platinum tetras , 3 botias , female nannacana cichlid, pair of borelli cichlids, pair of pandini cichlids , female checkerboard barb, a cardinal tetra , a glass catfish , a young paradise fish , a very small checkerboard cichlid., 3 rainbowfish and two small leopard plecs.

Guess who is the boss of the tank !!??

The cardinal tetra? No. That would be too ridiculous.
Must be a big tank. The 'pairs' are not breeding pairs I hope.

Checkerboard barb

In my first tank, we used zebra danios to cycle it. One outlived the others by quite a bit. He would herd the school of tetras into a tight group. It was pretty amazing! If one wandered off, he'd swim around and get it to go back to the group. He never bit them or anything, just made sure they were in line.

It's medium sized and heavily planted BUT really peaceful !
No breeding pairs and ALL youngsters .

Answer - The little 1" female checkerboard barb rules supreme !!!

"Medium-sized" is relative. IMO a medium-sized tank might be 55 to 75 gallon, but to someone else it might be a 30 gallon.

Preferably, schooling species should be kept in schools, which includes the barb, the cardinal tetra, the glass catfish, and the rainbows. The platinum tetra school is of a good size, though.
