![]() | High pH... what fish to choose? |

The tap water in my area is hard (GH is 100mg/L) and has a high pH (around 8.0). I am looking for hardy fish that would do well in these conditions. I also want to avoid over-populating the tank. I would be perfectly happy with just a few fish. I am thinking of getting a pair of dwarf gouramis (one male, one female) and a group of small schooling fish. But so far I have not had any luck finding schooling fish that would do well in high pH. I am also open to other suggestions. I had African Cichlids before (they were hybrid, a cross between saulosi cichlids and something else) and they did fine, but I would like something different this time. I would like to introduce a few live plants and have relatively peaceful fish. |

Or would it get bored with no other fish to pick on? Demasoni have been my favorite fish since the first time I saw one... but I know 30 gallon is too small for a large number of them. |
