Now that I have had some time to give the tank a thorough inspection I have also discovered the following... When looking at my stick on thermometer I noticed a bunch of little black 'lines' on the suction cup. As I looked closer, I thought "what is that and how did it get there?". So I wiggled the suction cup...and lo and behold it was a whole wack of dead platy fry. How they got there, I don't know. Why they were on the suction cup, I don't know. But they were most definitely dead, and most definitely muuuuuch smaller than the one I have swimming around in there now. I also noticed that I seem to have a little snail friend who managed to get into the tank. I can only assume that he hitched a ride in on one of the crypts which I got a few weeks ago. I also figure there is bound to be more in there somewhere. I'm wondering what kind of snail it is though. It is about the size of a popcorn seed. Dark brown, kind of a pointy 'tail' end. Thoughts? |

I have some that are dark brown. Is the shell tall and spiral(as opposed to short and wide)? Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

Like I said, it is about the size of a popcorn kernel. There appears to be a slight spiral at the tail end, and it is slightly oval in shape. Anybody got a good comprehensive snail page with some good pics I can look at? |

As for a comprehensive snail page, sorry, I don't know one of the top of my head. My best recommendation for fiding such a thing would be to just Google a search for it. Sounds to me like it could just be a juvenile MTS that is still growing though. I'd say to keep an eye on it as best you can and once it reaches a larger size, then run through some pics again... PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread. |

It was a pond snail. The fish loved it when I crushed the little buggers I found. Then a penny in the filter, the other day and I haven't noticed any others since....so far. |
