depending on the type of algae, but the most common answer would be a BN pleco or a gorup of ottos.

in general of course, depending on WC and tankmates.

i am going to leave the algae types and eatters with more experienced people, but from my personal suggestion if u may or may not know, CAE or chinese alage eaters would be a bad choice, and a common pleco would get to large, in case ur LFS might suggest one of them.

Like BettaChris said, it depends on what type it is. Algae eaters will eat certain kinds of algae. Can you take a picture of it?

If not, what color is it? Is it in clumps or single strands? Is it only on the gravel?

Here is a site on some different types of algae and how to get rid of it.

Guppy gurl,

I am only partial in sink with the previous posters (sorry gang).

Yes it very important to identify the type of algae, that should be your first task.

Getting a fish to eat it is, IMHO, not the proper next step. Instead you should find out WHY you have the algae in the first place. Algae appears if some conditions are not in balance, for example high light, imbalanced nutrients (on planted tanks), inadequate maintenance.

Hope this helps,

Ingo

Hi Guppygirl

Here's another article which might be helpful regarding the algae:

LF is right, you need to figure out why you're getting it in the first place...
