I've noticed alot of people saying they bought a female or a male. How can I tell what I have. Can someone also tell me the breeding conditions that they need or any other advice on breeding them. Is it easy? |

The male is typically more colorful that the female. Although the female's color can be quite striking, the males is usually more intense. Keep in mind the color distinctions are best made when males and females are sexually mature. The male's fins are often longer than the female's with the first dorsal fin over-lapping the second. The female's first dorsal fin usually falls short of the second or just barely touches it. The males body is also deeper and he tends to be a little larger than the female although not as broad because the female does develop some sort of a belly. Edit: Almost forgot to add this. Rainbowfish are relatively easy to breed. Just add water. LOL Honestly, a boy, a girl, and a spawning mop will get you eggs. If you plan on breeding them though, be prepared for the long haul. They do take quite some time to reach a sellable size (if that's what you want to do) as well as lots of space and clean water. [span class="edited"][Edited by 2004-08-23 15:04][/span] |
