Other than that, I'd say choose either neons or black neons and just get a school of one of them...school of 8 neons/black neons and a school of 6 SMALL cories should be fine... ![]() PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread. |

Works much better that way. -Formerly known as the Ferretfish ![]() |

bscal![]() Hobbyist Posts: 116 Kudos: 120 Votes: 5 Registered: 10-Jun-2004 ![]() | For a 20g long I'd suggest about 12-15 neon tetras and 3 albino cories... I'm dying to do a tank like this and put in black gravel... I think it would be so cool looking. And, before I get slammed for this, cories do not have to be in a school b/c they are shoaling fish. And as so many ppl on this forum have pointed out, they aren't found that close to each other in the wild. So, that's my 2 cents worth. HTH, Beth |
Janna![]() ![]() Mega Fish Posts: 1386 Registered: 24-Aug-2003 ![]() | cories do not have to be in a school b/c they are shoaling fish. That still means they should be kept in groups of 6 or more. And as so many ppl on this forum have pointed out, they aren't found that close to each other in the wild. Actually, only 1 person has said that. I'm not saying Cory Addict is wrong, I'm just saying that that is NOT what many people say on here. Cories should be kept in groups of 6 or more. As should the black neons and neons. As the others have said, CAEs get 10 inches long, and stop eating algae eventually in favor of other fish's slime coats. ![]() They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |

I never said or implied that they should be kept alone, and one of my posts stated that "corys are very social fish that crave interaction with other corys" (or something along those lines). My posts were in no way debating that corys should be kept in adequate-sized groups, I was just saying that in the wild (and in aquariums if the conditions are ideal), several species are usually found shoaling together. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |
bscal![]() Hobbyist Posts: 116 Kudos: 120 Votes: 5 Registered: 10-Jun-2004 ![]() | Sorry if I ticked anyone off and no I wasn't quoting your post, Cory Addict. And, no I don't think that cories should be alone but there have been several posts over the months I've been reading this forum (since about January) where people on here mention that they have 3 cories. If it's a matter of space it's better that someone not start out overstocked then to try and have 6 of everything. Also, eventually if Blackshark55 wants to add more, that's fine... but to start with I would strongly recommend understocking until you have a handle on water changes, etc. Personally I have 6 cories in the 55 but for quite some time I had 2 in the 10g and they seemed active and happy. But I never had one alone and I am not advocating just having one. If you take the time to read my post I specifically state that "I'd suggest 12-15 neon tetras and 3 albino cories." -Beth |
Janna![]() ![]() Mega Fish Posts: 1386 Registered: 24-Aug-2003 ![]() | where people on here mention that they have 3 cories. That most definitely doesn't make it right. There are some new members on here that have severely overstocked tanks, but that doesn't mean they should be copied. ![]() If a person doesn't have room for the minimum school size of cories, they shouldn't get them. Simple as that. They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |
princessinabsentia![]() Hobbyist Posts: 135 Kudos: 81 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Aug-2004 ![]() | in my opinion, which is all that is stated on here not facts, cories do not have ot be kept in schools i never have and all mine have grown to large happy adults. As for overstocking thats opinion as well. i know some people with a 55 and they have like 25 fish in there and they are happy and the water is bang on. others have a 55 and very few fish and have more problems. so its all a matter of what you want to do. again this is my opinion. me |

I figure maybe I'll learn something, maybe I'll read about something I'd like to try. So much of what we read about fishkeeping simply comes from that: different people's experiences. Experimentation is a way to learn. I tend to overstock There are obviously others like me, some who overstock even more, and those who do not. I'm also willing to make sure I have proper filtration and aeration, I research compatability, I do frequent water changes and tank cleanings. I watch to see that my fish show good color, are eating & growing, and look to be happy/content.I keep cories in two tanks. In one I have a school of six. In another tank I had six pandas until some time ago when I lost three for unknown reasons. I wanted to wait awhile before getting more but as time passed and I watched the remaining three I decided against it. They still look great, eat well, are very active, and play as much as my 'correct' school of six. Live and learn ![]() ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
