Ok.. today i get home, and my mom is yelling at me because my fish tank is leaking. (she knows nothing about fishk, but im going to buy her a tank so she can get into fish keeping)

ANyways, I found out that the filter overflowed, and water leaked out.

I just went and replaced the filter really fast, but i cut the pad off, and put it on top of the other filter. WIll this cause anything bad to happen? Im not sure if the tank is still cycling right now since i havent checked the levels since last week.

Put it this way.. what can i expect to see? Just a mini cycle?

I should think so.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

I think you'll go through a large-mini cycle if your tank has not full cycled yet. In a few days do a water change, and test water parameters before and after doing so. Good luck

I would expect a mini-cycle if I were you. You probably lost a lot of bacteria during that process and will see an ammonia spike in about 5-6 days. After that, it should calm back down...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

I'm having problems visualizing what you did. Not knowing your filter nor your current bioload, it's impossible to give you a definitive answer. Best I can tell you is that the beneficial bacteria lives on surfaces: the filter, the substrate, ornaments, etc. If you are presently attempting to cycle your tank, then the bacteria may not be fully established, and this might result in a lengthened cycle, or a mini-cycle (or both).
Here are my recommendations:
1. Check your water chemistry more frequently.
2. Forget about a tank for your mother. If you can get by with your tank alone without much of a fuss, consider yourself lucky and be happy with that.
