Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, I have an outbreak of BlueGreen Algae in both my 55Gal and my 15G.

What is the quickest and easiest way to get rid of them.
Currerent parameters in the 55G is as follow:
Temp: 30
pH: 6.8
Nitrate: 5ppm
Nitrite & Ammonia: 0ppm

Planted with amazon swords and hygrophillia.
Fertilizer, once a week, 5ml per 10G of water.
Light: 2x40W at 6500K, 14 hours a day.

Please hep!!!
Thanks
James

James,

Why did you create a new thread when you have This One going already? Are this different tanks?

BTW, reduce the light period to 11 hours per day, 14 is a little long and will cause more algae of all kinds.

Oh....um.....anyway, I forgot to ask how to get rid of it in the other thread.....i think.
And I don't think people will pay a lot of attention to a thread that has already been replied and is posted a long time ago.

Hope it's alright.

The situation is kind of frustrating, the tank used to look stunning, but now is covered with disgusting algae.

If I am not mistaken then the last entry I made in that thread told you how to get rid of it.

Let me know if you need more info on this

Here's an observation that may or may not prove useful.

I had a cyanobacteria problem in my quarantine aquarium. I was removing it in quantity after I finished quarantining my Cardinals. How I came to hate the stuff!

Then, I decided to conduct a little experiment.

I took some of the mystery snails from my main aquarium and let them loose.

Result? Cyanobacteria utterly NUKED within a week. And never been seen since.

I don't know what species of mystery snail I have (they're only tiny, and never grow to be more than about 5mm long) but they seem to be a top clean up crew when it comes to cyanobacteria.

I'm now trying out some shrimps as a thread alga controller - read more about this in my "Unexpected Natural Ally" thread in this same Forum!
