Okay, right now I've got a 29 gal setup w/2 AngelFish, 8 harlequin Rasaboras, and 6 cories; a 20 gal setup w/6 Neon Tetras, 6 Black Neon tetras, 6 Glo lite tetras and 6 Albino cories, and I've got a 10 gal that I've turned into a terrarium for my 2 Chinese Fire Belly Newts...

Now, I'm getting another 20 gal tank this week and I'd like to make it a more aggressive tank. Not one where i have to worry about this fish killing/eating that fish but one where the fish are bolder, and well just more aggressive. I need suggestions. Thanks!

Robin

hmmm how about some kind of barbs? I've heard those are a more active-type fish though i have never kept them myself... maybe rams? I am looking into getting a pair of blue rams myself for my 10 gallon

Rams are nice, I've found Bolivians to be bolder than Germans rams. A pair of kribs would work...maybe apistos or shell dwellers, that would be a nice tank. I'll have to give it some more thought

Kribs are much bolder fish than what you already have, and shell-dwellers, if you can find them, are a real treat. I would love to be able to have a colony of shell-dwellers, but alas, there aren't any in my area. Still, you might be lucky enough to have some.

If you want fish that will interact with you....IME barbs are the way to go! Many people complain about tiger barbs, but not all of them are nippy. My rosy barbs wont nip @each other but demand attention whenever I'm near the tank and will try to nibble my arm during tank cleaning ...however they're a bit too big for a 20.....go with some gold barbs . They're colorful and active! WCMM's are also very active and would be in a similar temp range as the barbs.

Ooh, go with shellies, go with shellies! That's a great tank size for them - you could have a larger group of a smaller fish (say, a small colony of multis) or a pair/trio of a larger, less common shellie (Caudopunctatus are quite pretty, and hecqui/meeli/boulengeri are very cool, and definitely further on the aggressive side than some). Go shellie, you won't regret it! ... except when your house is stuffed with 10 gals and a few 40-long colonies and your family abandons you for some less humid living space. But buy a dehumidifier, and then - no more regrets.

I really enjoy my 20 back home with a breeding colony of N. brichardi. They're gorgeous (to me at least) and agressive, and have some *really interesting* behaviour. How many juvenile fish help raise their younger siblings?
