It's barely possible. You have two bristlenose, and they will take up some room once fully grown. Your best bet is adding more tetras. I'd say, add two more rummynose, and another penguin. The more tetras, the happier they are, and the more active they'll be.

I wouldn't add another penguin, I'd add 3 more rummynose to give them a bigger school. They'll reward you by pointing all their little red noses in the same direction...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

I would add 1 more penguin, and 3-4 more rummys, and 1 more Bolivian Ram. Rams definetly, while not schoolers, enjoy the company of another of their own species.

Another ram wouldn't fit in there. They grow two to three inches long, and they produce more waste than tetras do. I'd just go with adding some tetras.

from what I have seen, rams are not very sociable toward each other anyway.

I may try to get a few hatchets if possible.... I'll have to see how big they get of course.

BTW what happened to my previous post? I deleted one and put that I had a duplicate post and it deleted both. Weird.

I have 2 rams, I had 1, and I thought it was fine, wouldnt need a companion. I added another one because my sister gave me hers, now they are inseperable!!
I think almost any peaceful fish would hate to wander through life thinking: How come I never see anyone like me? Will I always be alone? What a lonely depressing, boring life I live?"
sorry, least I feel thats how my fish feel.
Would be weird to go through life all alone.

Fish aren't that smart, Sneaky Pete. They don't/can't think about anything other than what they actually experience, and in many cases, they have very little memory. For instance, I believe the long-term memory span of a goldfish is three seconds. There are fish with more smarts than others, such as oscars, and bettas to some extent, but rams don't get lonely.

Adding a ram to that tank might cause trouble, but in any case, doing so would overstock the tank.

I have overstocked the tank in the past and have had no problems. Thats why I put so many plants in and put another filter in. It doubled the surface agitation and the water in the tank is replaced at a rate of 7.5 per hour. These are small fish. Their movement is not restricted and their needs are met. Any incoming lectures from those offended by these remarks shall be ignored.

I have owned 2 bolivian rams as well and they HATED each other. There wasnt a time when I went to the tank and they were butting heads. Perhaps the before mentioned cichlids were male and female. I would have to buy a bunch of bolivian rams then, somehow mark out which is my original ram and note which female he has paired off with. Too time consuming and difficult.

I MAY look around later this year and see if I can find some hatchets. As everyone hasnt noticed theres a whole top level of the tank that is empty.

I may also buy 1 or 2 more rummynoses to make them 'happier'...if this is guaged by the way they school then I'd say that they are happy now.

I compleatly agree that a school of small sized fish could be added ....I've got a 30 gallon tank myself, and while it doesnt' allow you to really have large fish, it does have much more surface area than a 29....since you've got it heavily planted, and with increased filtration I'd say go for it ....

Of course IMO the bottom is pretty empty as well...BN's aren't exactly active...
