In my 29g I think I will add... | |
jodecii Hobbyist Posts: 51 Kudos: 26 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Jan-2006 | I have a 29g. I think I have finally decided on what I would like to add to my tank. Let me know if you see any issues with my choices. Right now I have two flame dwarf gouramis 5 danios. The fish I want to add are as follows. I dont have their full names just a general name. Guppies Mollies Platys Algae Eater Cori Snail The fish I am interested in are very vibrant in color. One question I have is when I got my gouramis the fish store sent home a mystery snail. It is VERY tiny and hard to find. But it is in my tank. Now, if I get another snail will they breed causing me a snail over population problem. Also, with the live bearing fish if they have babies in your tank. How do you handle that over load especially if you werent planning on breeding them. Any adivse would be appriciated. Jody |

I think that snails can breed by themselves, and they breed very quickly, and that could cause a large amount of snails. The list says cory, i would get more than one, at least 4. I would just leave the snail, and if a whole bunch start to appear, then i would get rid of them. Otherwise i think your choices would be a fine idea. †Aquapickle† |

Fish Guy Mega Fish Posts: 1091 Kudos: 1254 Votes: 2 Registered: 28-Jan-2004 | Well Mollies tend to perfer to be in a brackish water. I would go with some nice looking platys, male and female, don't really matter the fry will most likely be eaten. The guppies are alright but I think that the Gouramis might eat their tails. What type of snail are you looking at, if its an apple snail , I would go with that to. What type of danios do you have? |

Also, having zebra danios, gouramis, platies, mollies, and guppies and cories...that is way too much fish for a 29g. Like suggested above, get all male platies and all male guppies. If you got females the fry would soon overcrowd the tank, if they don't get eaten. I would get atleast a couple more danios. They tend to be nippy and would do better is a bigger group. They will also like the pretty tails of a male guppy. I would just get 2 or 3 more danios, 3 male platies, and 6-8 cories for the bottom. That would be a stocked tank. If you want Mollies and guppies then get another tank for them. You shouldn't overcrowd your tank. That causes lots of problems, and may even cause fish to die. |

jodecii Hobbyist Posts: 51 Kudos: 26 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Jan-2006 | Thank you for your advise. So if I want guppies platies mollies then I can't have gouramis and danios in the tank. I have a friend who is willing to take those fish. |

Fish Guy Mega Fish Posts: 1091 Kudos: 1254 Votes: 2 Registered: 28-Jan-2004 | Well Mollies want there own brackish tank, but if you really want them you can keep them in freshwater. So if those fish were taken out I would then go with 6 platys, 6 guppies, 3 mollies and 4-5 cories. But with a 29 gallon I would try to get all male fish. |

I have an idea but am not confident applying those skills. LOL Don't most of the young get eaten? Ahh. I dont know what to do. So if I keep current fish Male platys Male guppies and a school of cories? |

jodecii Hobbyist Posts: 51 Kudos: 26 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Jan-2006 | Okay so what is the final consensus because I like all of the fish discussed. WHat would make a compatible tank. Also adding a frog to the list. LOL |

judz Enthusiast Posts: 256 Kudos: 160 Votes: 5 Registered: 06-Jun-2005 | tell u the truth everyone likes looking at a tank differently. i think having a male and female gouramis makes a great center piece in a tank. also will eat all the frys from the livebearers. |

jodecii Hobbyist Posts: 51 Kudos: 26 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Jan-2006 | Oh really. I have two dwarf gouramis. Maybe I will give my friend who has a tank my danios. She said she would take them. Leave the gouramis and get some livebearers. TO be honest I was getting nervous about all the fry would over take my tank but if you say gouramis will eat them I will stick with my plan. |

Fish Guy Mega Fish Posts: 1091 Kudos: 1254 Votes: 2 Registered: 28-Jan-2004 | Yes, if you keep the gouramis then you can get males and females. You probely won't even get overstocked anyway, b/c even the parents eat the fry. |

Fish Guy Mega Fish Posts: 1091 Kudos: 1254 Votes: 2 Registered: 28-Jan-2004 | I don't know about the eggs, but I would just go with a little aquatic frog. |

GirlieGirl8519 Fish Master *Malawi Planter* Posts: 1468 Kudos: 1029 Votes: 35 Registered: 25-Mar-2005 | African Dwarf Frogs are a smaller aquatic frog. I wouldn't keep them with alot of fish though. It is hard to feed them because the fish get the food before the frog does. I think they are better kept in a species tank, or with a betta in a smaller tank. |

Inkling Fish Addict Posts: 689 Kudos: 498 Votes: 11 Registered: 07-Dec-2005 | I think you should do this: 5x Danios 2x Dwarf Gourmis 3x Plattys 3x Guppies (F) 1x Snail The snail is most likely a pest snail. You could add some live plants if you want more Inky |
