Mine eat anything offered, flakes, micro pellets, frozen daphnia, frozen brine shrimp, and frozen blood worms. I have made no effort to breed them, and can not add any knowledge on the subject. Good luck with them. |

After that, though, I find that these fish are much less shy. They seem to readily accept a wide variety of foods, and appreciate some form of cover near the surface. As the above post stated, they are also very good jumpers. Just keep a careful eye out for any hatchets that decided to explore the unexplored and leap from the tank. |

It's been several years since I kept any, but mine readily accepted any type of food and relished small insects, like fruit flys on the surface of the water. A bunch of nice floating plants helps to make them feel secure and also helps to give them a bit of shade to hang out in which mine always seemed to appreciate.
