Im in the middle of stripping down my 20g tank after an invasion of critters and ive managed to kill them off my plants using a mix of snail rid (copper sulfate) and bleach.

Would it be safe to wash the existing gravel in this mix, rinse and replace in teh tank or would i be better off buying new gravel...

im making sure all these things have been zapped!!!

thanks!

I'd be wary of mixing bleach with anything (speaking as one who daftly mixed it with disinfectant and very nearly passed out) but yeah, gravel can be bleached and rinsed and re-added, but if you intend on putting the fish in the tank straight away, I wouldn't. You either need to rinse and rinse and rinse and dechlor and let it stand and rinse and rinse and dechlor etc etc until you cannot smell any bleach, OR bleach, rinse well and let it dry for a day. I find the latter most effective.

No need to buy new gravel, unless you want to of course

yeah bleaching the rocks is fine just pay attention that you dont use to much then itll be very difficult to remove any bleach remainder.

It is a big job isn't it? In for a penny in for a pound. Once you commence you haaaave to keep going - worse luck! But on the upside you are approaching the finish line.

Insert cheer and flag wave here!

Good luck.

i have crossed the finish line and am now in the cycling process *sigh*

i bought 4 new danios to help out with the process.. its my first experience with danios.. i have 2 zebras and 2 pearls as that was all they had! very active little creatures! i also put my cories back in as they didnt look to happy in the other tank and i had my fingers crossed they would be alright and checked on them about every hour and they are doing fine!

so it all turned out well in the end and its feeling as if it was worth it !
