Thansk SJ,

I live in Rockaway so Wayne is only like a 20 minute drive. I will check out those stores when I get my water situation squared away.

Thanks again,
Don

I live in the Wayne area (near Willowbrook Mall).

These are the stores I frequent. I would recommend Rainbow highly for questions and help.

Rainbow Aquarium - Route 23, Wayne, the father and son owners are very knowledgeable. The father is there on the weekends and he will really take the time to talk about your tanks and fish.

Another one in Wayne, NJ. Pet Place. Right across the street from Rainbow. I really haven't spoken to salespeople, but they sometimes have incredible deals on fish.

Absolutley Fish Route 46. Montclair? Huge selection of fish, worth the trip just to check out all their tanks. They have fish you just won't find elsewhere. They were the store of the year for Tropical Fish Hobbyist. Their salespeople seem quite knowledgable.

PetSmart in Paramus - LCS. I've had good luck with fish I buy from there. I haven't spoken to the folks there about anything other then buying fish.

Fish Town - Ramsey - The owner is very knowledable. Check out their custom made SW bookshelf tank, it's really cool. It's right on top of their new SW tanks.

Hey SJinNJ, if you don't mind me asking, where abouts in northern Nj are you? I have just started a new tank, and have been having all sorts of problems. I would love to haev a reliable LFS to depend on. Mostly all I have around here are big chain stores. Any store locations you could possibly let me know about would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

Yep, whetu is right, just do it! I drive that far about a dozen times a year for fish auctions. I always visit the lfs in the areas. Some are just small ones, while others are absolutely huge. You never know what oddity or rarity you are going to find in them.

I've been to the aquarium in Baltimore and absolutely loved it. The room where you are in the middle of the aquarium and the fish swim all around was my favorite part.

OMG it was amazing. I went there with babelfish, Theresa_M and JDubs on my Fishprofiles World Tour of the USA... Hey if I can fly half way around the world to visit FishProfiles people, then what's a 300-mile drive to see a LFS? Just do it!

I know nothing about the store or what you are looking for.
I think you are more apt to find what you are looking for at aquabid or from a breeder. I breed guppies to improve genetic traits. It takes three or four years to make substantual improvements so it is worth going the extra mile for me.

I tried to stay away from naming stores as it seems Fish Profiles frowns upon that, but it is TFP

Actually there is no problem mentioning a fish store. The only problem is if you are going to flame or disrespect a buisness, not only of a fish store nature, but any buisness. As long as it is a question, or a good/positive post or comment, then there is no harm or problem using the name of a particular store.

Hey folks,

While surfing the web I came across a large fish store in Lancaster PA. Since I've got the time (2 weeks off of work) is it worth a 300 mile round trip to go there? I would like to hear from anybody that's actually gone there. They says they have over 300 tanks with over 36,000 gallons of water.

Thanks

Hey folks,

I tried to stay away from naming stores as it seems Fish Profiles frowns upon that, but it is TFP. If they are working on their fish room I'll wait til it's done.

I've never been to Fish Fish Fish & I couldn't find it doing a search on Yahoo, do you have anymore information?

I've been to the aquarium in Baltimore and absolutely loved it. The room where you are in the middle of the aquarium and the fish swim all around was my favorite part. They're doing an expansion there & when it's done I will definately go back.

I have been to TFP many times (I luckily live only an hour away), and you would be hard-pressed to find anything cheaper as far as equipment goes.

As a lot of other people have said, they are redoing their fish room completely. I can tell you, it is much improved from what it was. Two years ago, I would never have bought any fish there, but now I have completely stocked my new tank with their fish.

I'd call ahead or check the website for prices, and if you save a lot, heck, go for it.

I've been to That Fish Place about 5 times since May of this year. It's a great place, I love going there. If you are into other animals, you'll enjoy it even more. The prices are great and they have a huge selection of products. But, as LittleMousling said, they are completely redoing their fish room. So if you are wanting to purchase fish, I'd wait until the remodeling is complete.

Never been in that neck of the woods, but it sounds like it would be a fun trip.. Betcha there might be several good stores along the way as well.. Even if the one you listed doesn't impress you, perhaps something along the way might..

If so I keep meaning to make the trip up from DC....meant to do it on one of my trips up to NY but never got the chance to (well that and the fact that they werent open @4am ). I'd say do it....and see some of the museums or something in the area while you're @it.....or nip down to baltimore and visit the aquarium...or the LFS's there .

No, I don't live near Buffalo, I live in Northern New Jersey. We have some great LFSs here including Tropical Fish Hobbyist's store of the year. But this place looks HUGE and I was just very intested in weather it would be worth the trip, or not.

It's a great store. However, I was there recently and they were changing over a lot of tanks, so their stock was pretty low. They have great prices on dry goods and beautiful display tanks but the fish selection isn't always phenomenal. Great, yes. 300 miles of great - maybe.
If you're remotely close to Buffalo NY, though, there's a store up there that trumps That Fish Place in everything except size. Unfortunately, it too is in the middle of a move! -but they should be done, er, eventually. It's called The Fish Place and it's in North Tonawanda, which is a suburb of Buffalo.
