I would really like to get some more use out of the 10 than just for fry. I have been batting around the ideas of such fish as : Cherry Barbs Neon Tetras (which I have been told would definetly eat fry) Dwarf Pencilfish Would any of these fish work in a 10 with fry? I have had a couple of dwarf pencilfish and had to feed them ground up flakes, they had such a tiny mouth, so I think they would maybe be ok? Any thoughts on this? It may sound cruel but it ensures that only the healthiest fry survive. He doesn't bother them after a couple of days anyway though. The tank is planted with hornwart and a some plastic plants which give the little fellas a chance. There are many places to hide. Out of the last batch of about 10, 4 have made it all the way to adulthood. Of course this is the guppies regular home so there is also going to be predation from the parents also. No overpopulation in the tank and everybody is happy. |

I was thinking pencilfish would likely be good, as would cherry barbs, both fish have a tiny mouth. The only fry I ever see not grow very fast is the ones with kinked spines or other birth defects, which is not common in my fry tank anyway. I find the plants are not doing so well, and I think it is the lack of nitrates being produced in the tank. I am sure tiny fry dont produce as must waste as adult guppys, and I worry about the tank not maintaining a healthy nitrogen cycle because of lack of fish waste. Has anyone kept cherry barbs or pencilfish with fry? Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

I ended up adding otos.. I have 3 in my 10 gal. You need live plants, and some algae growth in the tank for this to work.. The great part is they have no interest in eating fish fry whatsoever !
