[font color="#000080"]Hi all,

I know I am going on with the same thing over and over again.
But i'm too anxious and excited.
My kribs have spawned twice in the last month, i've only got them for 1 month.
They've spawned at the same place each time.
Here is where they've spawned in.
http://community.webshots.com/s/image15/8/1/2/159980102UviMMr_ph.jpg
The entrance is facing the front of the tank, but now i've covered half of it up with a rock.
Temperature is kept at 29 degrees.
Water change once a fortnight for 20%.
You can see the rest of my tank here:

Maybe I should just give them a little bit more time.
Everytime, the female laid the eggs they all turn out to be unfertilized and eventually eaten.
I can see the female guarding in the cave all the time and cleaning the eggs,
but I've never seen the male go into the cave.
How can the eggs be bloody ferterlized if he doesn't go in there!!! ]:|
Any suggestions will be helpful!!

Thanks,
Jimmy

Relax, if they don't get it done this time, they will the next.

I would put a few more hidey holes in, give them a choice. My Krib tank has 5 flower pots and some rockwork for just the two Kribs. That's probably overkill but what the hell.

Nice looking tank. Do you have other fish in there with the Kribs?

Relax, have fun and don't poke around in there too much. He might have gotten in there when you weren't around.

Good luck, Mike

Many cichlids take several spawning attempts to get things right. i have a pair of red terrors that have spawned 2 or 3 times and still haven't gotten it right. they will eventually though, so the best thing you can do is take great care of them and be paitient.

Like Jason said, sometimes they need to fall off the horse a couple time in order to get it right. Also, while most kribs will breed in community setups (mine did!!! ) you may want to try moving the other fish out. They may be stressing the kribs out.

Usually, they just need to mess up a couple times before getting things right.

After about 5 or 6 attempts, then you may have a problem, but usually by then, they will have some success.

Also, as a side note, tetras like to be in schools of at least 5.

[font color="#000080"]Good news today!!!
I've actually mistaken my kribs for their second spawn.
The eggs hatched either today or yesturday. Now, i have at least 50 babies.
Mom and dad decided to take the babies out for a swim today!
They are a lovely family!!!
YAY!!!

Awesome. good luck. you probably thought they ate them when they hatched. That is what happened to me, i thought htey had eaten them but i looked into bottom of cave and there were about 50 or so krib babies.

[font color="#000080"]
thanks heaps for the advice guys
just another couple of questions.

i'm feeding my fish frozen blood worm at the moment,
and the frys don't seem to mind tackling food larger than them
they can't swollow the food but they just keep on picking on the worms
the worms are eventually eaten up by the frys, just very slowly
is that fine with me feeding them the blood worms or do i have to find something that fits their mouth

and i am going away for a holiday for 1 week (7days).
i'm not so worried about the parents, i can just feed them a good serve of worm before i go,
and if they are really hungry, they can eat my plants (1/3 covered the tank)
but for the fry, what can i feed them?
can they eat the plants too?
will the parents eat their babies?

it's going to be hard consider that i have at least 100 frys now all growing fast

help me.............

thanks,
jim

Congrats JQW, Some patience is needed in fish keeping & as everybody said, Cichlids take a couple of spawns before getting it right. You're lucky, they only did it once & got it right with the second.

It's better to cut the Bloodworms in smaller pieces for the small ones, or maybe feed them Brine Shrimp.

The fry need to be fed more often than the parents, can someone feed the fish for you, while you're on holiday?.
