Hi all,
I am setting up a 90g tank in the next week here,
and im sure it wont have a big or long cycle as Im going to be putting water from my 25g and all the gravel into it.
I am going to be having a community type environment with a "south american jungle" theme, as most of my fish are south american in origin.
What I am wanting, is one semi large (4-9 inch) fish, that can be my 1 big showcase fish.
I was interested in the green severum, but have been given only sketchy info on whether or not 1 of those would be OK with the fish I have. Temperature will be 80, ph 6.5-6.8 preferably, heavily planted, with quite a bit of driftwood. The existing occupants will be some tetras (penguins, buenos aires), some rainbowfish (ornatus, boesmani), a pair of bala sharks, an angelfish, a pair of weather loaches, bolivian ram, corys, polka dot and queen botia, and a pair of sailfin mollies, as well as possibly a black lancer catfish, and a couple of clown plecos, and a farlowella catfish.
What large fish would fit into this community. I would like something with "personality".
Give me some suggestions people, and any criticism on whether a Green Severum would fit.

Sounds like a great setup!
And the green severum, seems like a good pick, though i'm thinking it may eat your smaller fish :88) not entirely sure though.
GL with the setup

I have a green severum as my center fish in a 60gal. He is very docile and never bothers the other fish, bala sharks, tetras. Keep him well fed.

Sneaky,

Sorry can't help on the Severum, know nothing about them.
But I did notice something in your post about getting Buenos Aires Tetras. I know from your other posts you want this tank to be planted. The BA Tetras are voracious plant eaters and may gobble them up as fast as you can put them in. Just a word to the wise in case you didn't know already.

i agree with the DOJO
The existing occupants will be some tetras (penguins, buenos aires), some rainbowfish (ornatus, boesmani), a pair of bala sharks, an angelfish, a pair of weather loaches, bolivian ram, corys, polka dot and queen botia, and a pair of sailfin mollies, as well as possibly a black lancer catfish, and a couple of clown plecos, and a farlowella catfish.
ok so lets look at this

rainbowfish need a school
same with the balas!
you will have to get rid of the tetras cause they will eat all your plants and then get eaten by eihter the severum or the balas! dojos prefer water in like the low 70s not low 80s they are cool water fish capable of breathing air! mollies require harder water and same with the severum!

Severums need soft water not hard, Tetras won't necessarily be eaten by the Severum which is very peaceful by itself, tetras will not eat plants at all except for silver dollars, adn yes molly's need harder water so all i would say is drop the Balas, the Molly's, and the Angel. Get around 10-15 tetras, 8-10 cory's, 1 severum, 1 pair of rams, 1 weatherloach, drop the botias, and im not sure about the lancer cat nor the farlowella cat. Get about 6 clown plecos cuz they are small and seem to clean up better in groups.

I already have a mating pair of Buenos Aires tetras in my 25g, it is planted, and while yes, they do munch on the plants, it is not enough to destroy the plants, nor irritate me, in all reality, I am glad the tetras have that little extra something they like to eat!!!
The rainbowfish will have a school, they are 4 now, and will be 4 ornatus and 4 boesmani.
. I am not removing fish, this post is not about which fish to drop. It is about which fish to add, so lets avoid that part of the topic all together now. I am not removing any fish.
Do you think the severum would eat buenos aires tetras??? They are not exactly small!!! I would say mine are a good solid 2 inches for the male and a little more for the female, and quick to boot.
I am leaving my danios, glowlights, and other small fish out of this setup for just that reason.
Any other suggestions on a big showcase fish? I have considered as well: Blood Parrot, Opaline Gouramis, etc.
Oh , and the farlowella catfish is an algae eater, not a true whiskered cat. He is non aggressive, shy, and reclusive. I am hoping to add a couple more botia to keep the 2 I have company.

Suggestions please?? Green Severum, Blood Parrot, or Opaline Gouramis?

Moonlight gourami!!!!

They are one of my favorite fish. Very peaceful, wouldn't hurt a fly. They grow to six inches, and are very beautiful (pictures don't do them justice).

Your angel is going to get quite big itself, with wingspan up to 15 inches, therefore it will be quite the centerpiece itself! I would add another angel of similar size to your current angel but maybe a different variety. Since you are going with a theme tank it might make sence to not have such a large range of different fish - not saying to drop any, just add more to what you have.

I think angel fish can fit the description of what you want in that tank, they get pretty big, have great personality, and are stunning fish.
