BeastKeeper![]() Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 ![]() | sorry i cant be helpful with your question but i was thinking about getting one of these. how do they act, what size tank, what they eat, and compatible fish. but i had an oscar that did the same thing with out the bubble part. i later found out that he was light sensitive, could he be scared of light? but that wouldnt explain the bubbles. i dont know good luck! |

Their personalities seem to differ with the fish, as I have one and so does my boyfriend...and mine is very active while his seems quite shy. They generally keep to themselves, I think it's because their eyes are so small they can't quite see well enough to go after another fish .They like to eat shrinking shrimp pellets. Depending on the size you get, the tank size varies, but take note, THEY GROW VERY QUICKLY!! I started mine out in a 30 gallon, and he got much too big very quickly. I would suggest a 55+....some might even say more, but I think 55 would be quite well. Overall, these are great fish, and no matter what, they have awsome personalities (And are super cool to look at ).BTW, he didn't do the bubble thing last night, so I'm hoping he was just occupying himself the other night out of bordem ![]() HTHAL Brandi |
BeastKeeper![]() Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 ![]() | what else could he go with in a 55usg? |
chocobobabe![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 530 Kudos: 214 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Nov-2002 ![]() | I have mine with a large variety of fish. Like I said, he (nor my bf's) doesn't go after any other fish. All of the other fish seem to ignore him as well, so in my opinion, he'd go with anything. Maybe you could check under profiles and check "compatiable species"...Let me know if you have any othe questions ![]() Brandi |
BeastKeeper![]() Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 ![]() | fp's doesnt have this fish's profile. but ill try looking on the internet. have you figured out what yours was doing? what would you recommend me put in the 55usg with him? |
chocobobabe![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 530 Kudos: 214 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Nov-2002 ![]() | I wasn't sure where to post this, but I was wondering if anyone kept this type of fish here? Last night mine kept me awake from 1:00 am until 4:00 am...listen to what he/she does.... It will swim up to the top of the tank and almost gasp air and make little bubbles come out of it's gills. I thought maybe it was because there wasn't enough O2 in the water...so I turned on the light...and he stopped. During the 3 hour period of my kept awakeness, I figured out that he would only do that in the dark! As soon as I would turn on my bedroom light, he'd stop... Why would it be doing this?!?! Grrrrrrrrrr... Any help or suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance, Brandi |
BeastKeeper![]() Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 ![]() | sorry to confuse you but i was asking if the violet goby and the jade sleeper goby would be okay for a 125usg? they both get to 2' in length! so could i add anymore fish into the 125usg after these gobies? |
chocobobabe![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 530 Kudos: 214 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Nov-2002 ![]() | I'm not familiar with any of the fish you listed except (duh) the violet goby, so I can't really help you, I'm sorry ![]() Brandi |
BeastKeeper![]() Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 ![]() | what are some compatible fish that can go with the violet? i was thinking of just having two giant gobies in the 125usg a violet and a sleeper goby. would this work? open to more ideas! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

BeastKeeper![]() Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 ![]() | i was also nervous when i moved a 120usg tank into my room on the second floor! i keep my fingers crossed but i hope u figure out why he is doing that. But im having trouble finding a LFS in st.louis that sells the violet gobies. ![]() |

Big mistake sometimes...Second, in most rooms in our house, the floor is very weak...I don't hate Dragon so much that I want him in the ba LOL. Good thought though..thanks for the reply ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Brandi |
BeastKeeper![]() Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 ![]() | dojo, how long can a violet goby get until he is to big for a 55usg? |
BeastKeeper![]() Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 ![]() | choco, i take it that his tank is in your room? if it gets that bad, if you move the tank into a different room you wont think about him and what he is doing. |

I always say don't quote me though ![]() I suggest if you are really interested in this fish, do a lot of research. Figure out everything you can and then make you decision. I love mine and wouldn't trade him for the world, but OMG I only got one hour of sleep last night thanks to him ]:| So does anyone have any suggestions? Brandi |

More like 125 gallons, min. Some would say 180. |
