sorry i cant be helpful with your question but i was thinking about getting one of these. how do they act, what size tank, what they eat, and compatible fish.

but i had an oscar that did the same thing with out the bubble part. i later found out that he was light sensitive, could he be scared of light? but that wouldnt explain the bubbles. i dont know good luck!

As for your questions about this fish:

I highly recomend getting one, they are great fish! Their personalities seem to differ with the fish, as I have one and so does my boyfriend...and mine is very active while his seems quite shy.
They generally keep to themselves, I think it's because their eyes are so small they can't quite see well enough to go after another fish .
They like to eat shrinking shrimp pellets.
Depending on the size you get, the tank size varies, but take note, THEY GROW VERY QUICKLY!!
I started mine out in a 30 gallon, and he got much too big very quickly. I would suggest a 55+....some might even say more, but I think 55 would be quite well.
Overall, these are great fish, and no matter what, they have awsome personalities (And are super cool to look at).

BTW, he didn't do the bubble thing last night, so I'm hoping he was just occupying himself the other night out of bordem

I have mine with a large variety of fish. Like I said, he (nor my bf's) doesn't go after any other fish. All of the other fish seem to ignore him as well, so in my opinion, he'd go with anything. Maybe you could check under profiles and check "compatiable species"...Let me know if you have any othe questions

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I was wondering if anyone kept this type of fish here?
Last night mine kept me awake from 1:00 am until 4:00 am...listen to what he/she does....
It will swim up to the top of the tank and almost gasp air and make little bubbles come out of it's gills.
I thought maybe it was because there wasn't enough
O2 in the water...so I turned on the light...and he stopped.
During the 3 hour period of my kept awakeness, I figured out that he would only do that in the dark! As soon as I would turn on my bedroom light, he'd stop...
Why would it be doing this?!?! Grrrrrrrrrr...
Any help or suggestions would be great!
Thanks in advance,
Brandi

I don't know how long,probably until it's about 9" long. Then I would move it to a 75. When it reaches about 16" I would upgrade to a 125.

Beast,
Well, first off, one of the only ways I could talk the folks into letting me get into fishkeeping years ago was to say I'd keep the tank in my room. Big mistake sometimes...
Second, in most rooms in our house, the floor is very weak...I don't hate Dragon so much that I want him in the basement! LOL.
Good thought though..thanks for the reply

choco, i take it that his tank is in your room? if it gets that bad, if you move the tank into a different room you wont think about him and what he is doing.

Dojo,
I have never heard that they got that big at all...I think the biggest I have heard was that they'd fit in a 55 gal, but it's always better to go bigger. I always say don't quote me though
I suggest if you are really interested in this fish, do a lot of research. Figure out everything you can and then make you decision. I love mine and wouldn't trade him for the world, but OMG I only got one hour of sleep last night thanks to him ]:|
So does anyone have any suggestions?
Brandi

FP doesn't have a profile cause it's brackish; they don't have brackish profiles. 55 is too small, they grow to 20" long. More like 125 gallons, min. Some would say 180.
