I know i wont get the best/most accurate replies since it it is very unlikely anyone knows the exact stand im talking about. I have a metal stand for my 29g, the legs are split into 2 bars each and have an "S" like design in between those 2 bars (yea i know, GREAT description ) . The lower shelf is composed of thin metal horizontal bars and then 1 vertical bar in the center of them. They bend when i press hard on them. I placed a 10g tank on it half-full. It seems sturdy, the bars bending seem to exert force on each other and help distribute the weight (kinda like most modern bridge designs). I guess I will get a pic tomorrow. Can anyone give me some input here as to if they think this "shelf" will hold a 10g? Also, is the main stand in danger since it has both the weight of the 29g on top of it and then the 10g adding to it?

Usually lower shelfs on stands like that are not made to hold that much water. If you reinforce it, say... put a wooden box under it that fits snugly between the floor and the bars or at least supports the bars... the whole stand probably won't have problems otherwise... if your tank was full of rocks or taller, then it would be heavier than it is now, and the stand is engineered for that. We have a 55 gal on a metal stand.... Underneath was a "shelf"...... Wanting to reinforce it, we placed a metal shelf (the kind you purchase for closets or storage - not using the wall braces of course - just the shelf part, which of course is not solid but has metal "beams" all the way across)on top of the 55 gal stand shelf ---- VOILA! It now holds a 10 gal tank AND a 20 gal tank!!!!! So I would think that if you used a sturdy reinforcement you could definitely utilize the bottom shelf on your fish tank stand!

To thine own self be true...

Those stands are designed for another tank to be used in that spot. BUT, don't put another 29 there. The bottom part isnt held up but with some welding, so the force is lateral on the stand. A 10 gallon would be just fine there. If you'd like, you can put some wood under the stand where the 10G will go for peace of mind, but it's not needed.
