I was asleep and suddenly i woke up thinking there was something wrong. As my 30 gallon aquarium is in my room, i went over to it and noticed a fish was missing. i looked behind the aquarium, and there was an orange platy. It was still alive, so i put it back into the aquarium and it is now fine.

More to the point, how can i stop them from jumping out of the aquarium. the platy must have got out throught the gap in the canopy where the wires can be fed through.

Cover glass would stop this (or the plastic alternative).

i use a towel to cover up gaps after i almost lost my BEST sword tail female, she jumped through the filter intake, went on the side of my dresser and i fought to get my hand down there, i thought i was going to have to forget her, then i grabbed domething (forget what) and pushed he from the back twords me, well now she is back in the tank and my tiger guppy still ignores his 5 femals and goes after her, and no other fish have ever jumped out of that tank scence, but while at my grand parent's house, i brought my pregnant guppy, she jumped out of the holding container, i was crushed, she was my favorite and last female, btut then my grand parents felt bad and went out, and got me 4 beautifull baby girls

Wow, you WERE very lucky to wake up like that, just in time to save your fish. That is great.
I have a glass top and for the back where all the appliances hang, I trimmed the hard plastic they provided with my glass and everything fits very tight.
