a couple of days ago i bought 4 live plants for my grandpa because his local petstore didnt have good quality plants....well a couple of days ago i planted them in his 66 gallon and i put 3 fake rocks with caves inside...while i was planting and organizing there was alot of waste and food that was in the water. i also added a (real) rock but then took it out because it didnt look very well....Well today he just called and said that 2 of his cories died and 1 of his angels...the angel was floating on its side and bumping into everything, the next day he died.....the plants i got were cleaned and then placed in the tank but im not sure about the (real) rock...can the cause of the death be from the plants, rock, or from the stress of changing the tank around....PLZ help!

It could have been something on the rock, something in what you cleaned the plants with, or the anerobic bacteria waste gasses you could have stirred up digging around. i suggest a water change and a battery of tests run (ammonia, nitrite and nitrate at very least).

I wouldn't think it was the plants but I guess anything is possible.

You said there was lots of waste and old food that floated up. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Could it be toxins from anaerobic bacteria? How often does he vacuum the gravel and stir it up? Is there an under-gravel filter?
