One of my tanks is a 46 gallon bowfront tank with the following tank mates.

2- Pearl gouramis
9- Rummynose tetras
11- t-bone Rasboras
4- albino corys
6- panda cories
1- small pleco

Do I have room for some Marbled Hatchets and how many.
I also heard that the are shy and my tank is quiet active. Would they do ok.

You should have room for 6-8 hatchets. Just make sure they have some plants, real or fake, that reach the top of the aquarium to hang out in/near for security.

What kind of pleco do you have? Common plecs, as well as some other species will outgrow a 46g. Smaller species are ok though.

Thanks Dana. I will pick up some floating plants since I only have one that gets near the top. As for the Pleco it is a common but small. I know the people at the pet shop and they said I could return it when it got to big. They have some nice sized tanks to keep the large fish. I just really need some help with the algea and the otto's were not cutting it.

*agrees with Dani*

Marbled hatchets love spending time at the surface, they are big time top dwellers. The plants will provide the security they need to prevent stress.

As for the pleco---Even though you may be able to bring it back when it gets too big, I'd just exchange it for a different pleco all together. A bristle or bushy nose pleco would be great in a tank that size, and do wonders for your algae problem.

I will keep my eye out for the bristle nose. I have not seen any around my area for awhile.

Thanks again for all the info. I started visiting this site after some problems with my first tank and have learned alot. I know have 2-10 gallons, 1- 29 gal. and a 46 gal. I have only lost 3 fish in the last 7 months. So thanks again for making this hobby addictive.
