I think this might be a bit crowded for a 55g, but these are the fish I'm interested in...

2 Kribs
2 Firemouths
2 Blue Acara
1 BN Pleco
1 RTBS
8-10 Tiger Barbs

What would be a good combination? Any other suggestions?

Thaks for your help

Jack

I would take out the RTBS, and either the tiger barbs or a pair of cichlids. You would be pressed for space otherwise, and I'm not really a fan of tiger barbs.

I agree with sirbooks that you should leave out the RTBS. They get very aggressive and I'd be worried about the kribs. I would also leave out the firemouths. Again, I'd be worried about the kribs, as they are smaller, peaceful cichlids. The number of tiger barbs you are planning on having is good, as nipping will stay within the school. I think your tank would be nicely stocked with the BN, a school of TBs, a krib pair (maybe you could even have 4 in there)and the 2 blue acaras as your centerpiece fish.

About the pairs... were you planning on male female pairs, or same sex pairs? Keep in mind that all cichlids tend to get aggressive when breeding.

One more thing to consider: Make sure the kribs have plenty of places to hide. Rock structures and terra cotta flower pots are perfect for them.

Hope that helped. good luck

I was thinking m/f pairs. I think it would be cool for them to breed, although I have no experience with it. Is it a bad idea to mix a breeding pair with other fish?

Would 8 rams be ok in the same tank? Would they get along with the firemouths. If so, could I go with rams and other dwarfs with firemouths?

It's a bit OS. Kribs are fairly robust fish and can hold their own vs a RTBS. However, the RTBS just takes up too much darn room. I'd go with:

6-7 tigers
2 fm
2 kribs
1 BN

Acaras grow a bit big, IMO, so I'd leave it out, too.

OK, rethinking a little. How's this sound?

2 Firemouths
2 Kribs
1 BN
10 Zebra Danios

Anyone see any problems with this setup? What would be the pros and cons of having danios instead of tiger barbs?
