 | You need...
1 large tupperware dish with lid
1 box of baby oatmeal cereal (plain or bananna)
1 container of White cornmeal
1 packet of Active Dry Yeast
[hr width='40%']
Take the tuperware container, and put about 60-70% cornmeal, with 20-40% baby cereal (mix should be 1-1.5 inches tall total.) Slowly add small ammounts of tap water, until u get a thick paste. Do not make your mix to thick, but DEFINATLY NOT TO THIN, as microworms produce water as a by-product, so too much water will ruin your culture if you are not careful. Once you have your paste, then sprinkle a light layer of yeast over the mix. Once you have sprinkled the yeast, scoop out the starter culture from what u had it in and place it on top of your yeast layer. Put the lid on and poke small holes in the lid for air. Simply place this culture in a warm, dry place (room temp.) After 3 or so days, you should start seeing millions of little microworms crawling up the sides. That is a good thing Every week or so, you will see your culture to start turning runny. When this happens, just add more cornmeal touched up with some of the baby cereal and a very small ammount of yeast. After maybe 2 weeks, you can scoop out a small portion of this now established culture and start another culture this same way. This is useful because sometimes for unexplained reasons, one culture will go bad. Once a month or every six weeks, u will need to reculture your culture. To do that, simply scoop the layer of worms off, and put them on a plastic lid or something while u remake the paste like u did to start the culture and put the layer of worms back on top. To use this culture to feed your fry, just scrape a small ammount onto a toothpick and swirl in your fry tank. THATS IT! |
