i have researched microworms a little bit, but, i was wondering if you have to buy anything to raise them...what other live foods can even adults have that you can get yourself, not at a store

What came first? the chicken or the egg? No really.....

I belive you need to buy or build a specific container to raise and especially seperate the microworms out for feeding. Collecting them come feeding time appears to be the most difficult task.

Easiest live food to get for me is mosquito and gnat larvae. Set out a container of water and wait. Net out larvae frequently to avoid increasing the adult population around your house.

Can you buy freeze dried moquito larvae? Will most species eat them?

For microworms, you need an old lidded container (chinese food or margarine or something) and some rolled oats/oatmeal for them to live on, and yeast to feed them. Reasonably cheap except for the yeast, and it lasts aaaages.

You can also try grindal worms, earthworms, and (baby) brine shrimp

Well, unless you can find someone to give them to you for free, you have to buy the starter culture, and find something to culture it in, but otherwise, no

Pretty much.

You culture grindals in peat potting mix.

Earthworms in soil (I use washed horse poo from a horse that hasn't been wormed recently, if you pick it up yourself they'll usually let you have it for free)

Blackworms need to be kept cool and well oxygenated in water, and can be fed fish pellets or rabbit pellets or even paper!

Microworms are kept on an oat or bread type base, and just recultured as needed.

Vinegar eels are kept in apple cider vinegar with a slice of apple or so. I go months without refreshing their vinegar over winter.
