First up is some basic info on where this project started and how it came to fruition. I've been tossing around the idea of getting a new tank for a LOOOOOONG time. After leaving and reentering the hobby more times than I care to remember, I finally bit the bullet and ordered my setup. I didn't have room for a 6', so a 180g was out of the question. I didn't want to settle for an 18" wide tank, so that left only two options...a custom tank or a 120g. Obviously the latter of which prevailed. So I went down to a local fish shop and ordered the setup: 48x24x24, 48" twin tube, pine cabinet, and glass tops. When the dust settled and I came to my senses, the bill ran up to $743.04 after taxes. Not terrible...I was pleased.

Equipment caused some hassle, but I quickly made my decision. The classis canister vs sump arose, but the canister won. Fluval FX5 for those wondering. Heating will come by way of Ebo Jager. I will most likely add a powerhead once everything is setup.

Enough of the boring talk...I know everyone wants to know what's going in the tank. At the SA trip, I spoke to a few of you about doing an Eartheater setup. Well, that isn't happening. The MONSTER in me can't seem to keep quiet. As of right now, the tentative stocklist is as follows...
3x P.Motoro
3x D.Pulcher
1x AAA Jardini
1x M.Tigrinus
3x Pbass?

The tank comes in this Friday, but I won't see the filter until next week. Until then, here's the only pic I have ...the bill

way way to much fish for that tank.

ckk knows way, more than i do on predator fish, but that is way to much fish with a jaradini(which will probably kill everything) peacock bass(depending on the species will usually get huge, and adult males will tend to be aggressive and big) with motoros i think 2 would be good in a 125 but not 3.

To those that care...

I didn't do anywhere near what I expected today in terms of the tank, but progress was made. First of all, the tank is actually here! FX5 won't be here until Wednesday, so I'm going to wait until then to add water. I still need to get some placement issues resolved, get everything level, and I'll be set. I snapped these pics a few minutes ago...

Yes. The room is in dire need of a remodel. The deer mounts are beginning to bug me. It's just a mess in general, but the tank fills the space nicely.

Well Mike,

Glad to see you back in the hobby (again ), and glad to see that the tank seems to be coming together.

As you know, I have no experience with larger fish (or tankbusters, like in your plannned setup), but I hope for you that you planned the stocklist well. I am mostly with Chris, it seems like you will barely have any space left for water. Given that you worked at AF, maybe you know hat you are getting into (I sure don't).

Why did you order the double strip light? I assume you are not planning on planting that tank, or are you?

Have fun,

Ingo

Of course I wasn't planning on planting. Honestly, I'm not sure why I ordered the double strip light either. I'll see how I like it once its filled. Thanks for the kind words Ingo!

This setup won't be permanent. I'm already working on a bigger tank for next year.

Nice tank. I know why you ordered the double strip light. It's 24" wide and deep, and you wanted to see the fish.

u are missing an important factor, while the tank maybe only for short term, a jaradini arowana will most likely kill everything in the tank.

i would go without the arowana for sure as for its aggression and size.

You're missing it. I'm not getting a Jardini.

The rays will be the first permanent inhabitants of this tank. I've got media for my FX5 sitting in an established tank right now to speed up the cycle. Hopefully, this thing can be good to go but midweek next week!

The Pbass are temporary. I have a trio right now, so they are going in as soon as water is in the tank. Once the rays come, they will be lunch, so they will be gone.

Just to update...I spent a few minutes today getting the background on (black) and wiping the just from the inside of the tank. It never ceases to amaze me just how dirty these thigns get sitting in storage. As far as I know, we are still on schedule for the filter!

BTW, I'm running two Jager heaters...one 250w and one 100w. I'm pretty sure I'll be alright, if at least for the summer months. Eventually, the 100w will be swapped out for another 250w.

I'm also in need of powerhead recommendations. I want something small but powerful for obvious reasons.

As of right now, there will be no substrate. However, things may change in a few weeks.
