hi all,
i have a ten gallon tank and i am thinking about turing it into just a molly tank. i heard from a very reliable source that they would be very happy fish if the water was almost brackish. is this true?
thanx

yeah, depends on the kind of molly though. some of them... I think it might be sailfins... like fresh water when they're very young and transition to full salt. sailfins are really too big for a 10 gallon anyway...

mollys do get pretty big though so you could probably only keep a couple, i LOVE the lyretails though i always stop to stare at the black lyretails at the LFS

Pretty much all mollies get too large for a 10g tank. They enjoy swimming space and room. Balloon Belly mollys stay smaller, but are physically deformed/handicapped, whichever you want to call it. I would recommend platies or guppies or some types of killifish for a 10g.

Oh Also,
Mollys that are born and raised in captivity do not require any salt in their water. They are born and raised in freshwater. Brackish water is not essential for them.
