I want to know also if ican collect the water from the old tank to the new one with the gravel. And about moving the fish can i directly add them to the new tank i should cycle it for 2 days before adding them. Thanks

we need to know move info on your equipment!

i would say a filter on a 10g would be to small for a 40G

you can run the old filter in the 40g along with a new larger filter until the new one is completly cycled.

as for the gravel, i've done it where i move all gravel, plants rocks etc to new tank along with the old water, then fill tank with treated water of the same temp, and fish can be added,

just keep an eye on the water parms. and might have to do large water changes until new filter is cycled fully.

just don't add any new fish until everything is settled.

i agree with shekoi.. the filter from the 10 gallon will be too small for the 40 gallon, but using water from the ten gallon into the 40 gallon will help keep the beneficial bacteria of the fish alive.. i would always make sure the tank is cycled before you add your new fish, but if you wait too long to add the fish to the tank it can kill some of that bacteria you need.

im sure someone else can provide a proper time amount for cycling.. but i would try using both the new filter and your current filter in the new tank as shekoi suggested. they pretty much nailed it with their response.
