well, he could grow over 1m in size!

So no, he won't fit into a 55g either.

I suggest you see if a commercial aquarium will take him on, he will need a very big tank in the end if you want to keep him for yourself.

And he's nocturnal - hence not liking the light

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

If this fish is Ictalurus punctatus or one of its relatives, then yes, you're in for a shock. The record weight for one of these caught on rod and line is 58 lbs. A 58 lb fish will not physically fit in a 55 gallon aquarium regardless of whether there's any water in there or not!

That's the trouble with some catfishes. They look oh so cute as juveniles .. then turn into big (and sometimes ugly) monsters.

Think of the Channel Catfish as being a cold-water Red Tail and you won't go far wrong. It is ... a beast.

Sounds like it's time for a good old "Fish Fry."

Just kidding so don't beat me up. You can possibly check with some of your LFS, as some of them may know of someone looking for a larger species.

Hover your mouse over the acronym LFS as it should tell you. A nice feature Adam added to the site - tooltips that decode acronyms for you

Hang on - you BOUGHT this fish? At Petsmart ??? What on earth are they doing selling huge catfishes to an unsuspecting public? And Native American ones at that? Something tells me their staff need a crash course in doing things right and to ...
