My female betta and 1 of my wood shrimp died. No idea why. I did waterchanges on every tank this morning and found both dead this evening. The other wood shrimp and clown plecos in the tank are fine. The tank looks great and the plants are pearling. The water all tests the same as usual which means all zeros with a slightly high ph and hardness.

It probably has something to do with the fact I was gone for 4 days, my aunt over fed the tanks a little, and they went an extra week without water changes. She's one of those who believe food=love and nothing can go without a meal so no matter what I said she insisted on feeding the fish when she came over to feed the other pets. I figured 4 days would be fine considering how planted and understocked my tanks are. Everything appeared fine when I got back a few days ago, did a water change today, and dead critters. Nothing in the other tanks is dead including various inverts and tree frog tadpoles. There was a bit of extra detritus stirred up from the substrate but like I said slightly overfed for a few days and still looking and testing normal. No ammonia, no nitrites, and actually not even testable nitrates currently on that tank.

Mystery food from momma's kitchen maybe? Might be time for a small inquisition!

As you know I had to move my fish to my moms, and even though I expressly forbade her to feed the fish while I was gone, explaining fully that if need be they could go nearly a month with no food, and I hid the fishfood, yesterday when cleaning out one of the externals I find mealworms sections.Enough for about 8 complete mealworms, and judging by the way my fish eat, that meant she must have put in about forty

Thank god it was the tank with the polypterus in it, and he probably decimated the mealworms before anyone else could, or i might have had some dead fish.

Moms innit. The older you get, the dumber they get .

I purposely left the veggie flakes out and showed them to her since I knew if I left nothing to feed them she'd come up with something.

The cats did get random items fed to them as "treats". Glad I don't have much carpet because I spent the first 2 days I was back cleaning up vomit and diarhea. Good thing I don't go anywhere very often.
