Ok, I think I want a large school of neon tetras, and some centerpiece fish, and then some corydas(a small school for them)

Also I have an old piece of driftwood(I got it from the local pet store and had it in my tank when I still had my two severums, and that would be nice to use it again, and also I need to know if my filter is broken or if it is just clogged, it is a penguin 220(I am atleast sure that it is the weakest one with two bio-wheels.)

The problem is I have it on and there is water in the filter, but I think letting it sit for a few months like that clogged it, and I hear the motor making some faint noise, but no water going through it or even getting sucked into it...>_<

any help would be appreciated, and also I am going to clean the thing anyway, but would just using my fingers work....but then again that would feel extremely nasty though

My hair is actually a lot bigger, my newest collage of me in my catholic uniform is on buddypic pic and my name on there is insomniac305 if anyone cares to see what happend to my "wildlife preserve"

Also I like babel's idea, but I am leery of the sand substrate, mainly due to the problem of anearobic(spelling?) gas pockets forming, even though I do love it, and how would I work around it.

Also I would want to use harlequins instead of white clouds, because I really like harlequins ^_^

I'd vote for sir book's set up but with 2 blue rams instead of the angels (though blue rams are harder to keep). Failing that, a pair of gold rams (hard to keep also) or bolivian butterflys.

Nah, that tends to be untrue. If you buy the neons first, give them time to grow, and then, add a juvenile angelfish a couple of months later, you shouldn't have any problems. The theory is that by the time the angelfish is large enough to eat the tetras, it will be used to them, and not motivated to do so.

I wouldn't put Neons with an angelfish unless t=you get very large neons and a tiny angelfish, otherwise you might end up with 5 instead of 15! But that is your choice!

Oh sure, that would be workable. Let's see, how about this?:

1 angelfish (as a centerpiece)
15 neon tetras (you wanted a large school)
10 cories of any species

That would be a nice tank, with room to spare. Of course, you could go with a pair of dwarf cichlids as a centerpiece instead... They are more colorful, and have a bit more personality (cichlid pairs, you know).

I am open to most anything, it has an ebo-jager 200 or 250 watt heater(it works and is great for the tank) and a penguin 250 (i forgot the number, but it is the one with two biowheels in it) and I wantsomething nice and not too hard, no convicts or goldfish though, I was thinking of just a large school of rasboras or a large school of some kind of tetra, I am just getting back into the hobby because a science fair alternate project on fish i have to do sparked my interest again.

A heavily planted thirty gallon would be great.

Also, either of you two still read Opus?

How 'bout something similar to what books suggested, but planted with lowlight plants. Driftwood, catfish, ottos, tetras, plants, etc, all look nice together.

You could possibly do a biotope of some sort. An asian biotope (hillstream loaches, danios, or whatever asian fish floats yer boat), would look very nice...

Glad to see you back, sir, I haven't seen ya 'round in a long time. I think my username was §upernova or Supernova or something like that 'round the time you left

Well, thank you. I agree completely, fans have been disappearing since the strip went out of existence...

I am a fan of small fish, but you would probably be okay with something a little larger, too. Certain African cichlids would do, and shelldwellers (also African) are very neat fish. Smaller barbs wouldn't be a bad choice, you could have gouramis, etc. Like I said, check out some fish at a store or online, and see what appeals to you.

Actually, the above list is not a good idea. Clown gobies(if that's what the poster was talking about) are saltwater, and violet gobies get too big. Archerfish reach a foot in length. And, I don't know what kind of loach/botia the other poster was talking about, but they do need to be kept in groups.

However, I can suggest a nice tank:
2 dwarf cichlids (rams or apistos)
7 corydoras catfish (any species)
8 tetras (a small-ish kind)
1 small pleco (like clown plecs, or a bristlenose)

That is my kind of tank! As you can see, I'm partial to South American fish. However, you may not be. Check out your lfs or the profiles here, and see what suits you.
