| New 20g-What do you think of this for stocking? :? | |
greenday04![]() Small Fry Posts: 9 Kudos: 6 Votes: 1 Registered: 31-Dec-2004 ![]() | Currently have a 2 1/2g tank w/male betta and 2 spotted cories. All doing well and getting along swimmingly. I want to move them to the 20g and add more. Fish list: 1 betta 5 or 6 spotted cories (includes the two already have) 5 or 6 tetras, either glolite, ornate or black skirt Plus anything else you all suggest to add to it. I like the aponogeton, watersprite, cardinal plant and java fern plants. The light is only 17 watt. Sound good to everyone. Any alternative suggests are welcome. Thanks so much for your help PS what should I put in the 2 1/2g? I really would like to keep it. |

The constant schooling of the tetras sometimes tends to stress bettas out. Along with the fact that him being in that large a tank may also stress him out. I think he would be most happy in the 2 1/2 gal. Last edited by Cichlid Keeper at 12-Jan-2005 00:45 |

I just liked having the cories in there too as they sure keep the tank clean w/eating the food that sinks to the bottom. Just have to do more gravel vac. If I leave the betta in the other one, what fish do you recommend to go w/tetras. I would like a little bigger fish for the vocal point. thanks again |

Or a pair of cherry barbs, peaceful and good color. Sounds like a nice tank ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

I agree in that the betta should remain in the two and a half gallon tank. I kept a betta with lemon tetras, and the lemons would occasionally nip the betta's fins. Tetras will pester bettas, which is a good reason to keep them seperate.Last edited by sirbooks at 12-Jan-2005 15:20 |

I went to the LFS, All About Fish, and saw the green Tiger Barb, the glolites and Red Serpae. What about the Red Serpae? Guy said it would get to be about 3-4". Would like either them or the barb. Two of them perhaps Thanks BYW, they have Bio Spira, how excited am I!!!!! |

Anyway, putting cories with a betta in a 2.5 gallon tank is overstocking it by a LOT. I am a proponent of "overstocking" to some degree (in cases where plants and filtration make up for it), but there is no way to have a betta and a happy group of cories in a 2.5 tank together, no matter how many plants or how much filtration you put in it. If you really wanted to keep a group of cories and a betta you would need at least a 7 gallon tank. ><> |

greenday04![]() Small Fry Posts: 9 Kudos: 6 Votes: 1 Registered: 31-Dec-2004 ![]() | Yes I am from California Superlion. I don't think that putting my Betta and the 2 cories if overstocking. They are doing great and after the cycle has finished, which should be by the end of the week and w/constant monitoring and water changes, they will continue to do well. The cories sure keep that tank clear. Thanks Babel. What current are you referring to? The 2 1/2g or the 20g. Of the 7g that lion recommended? the betta is doing great, in fact for the past 2 months on his own and for the past month w/the 2 spotted cories Thanks guys. Keep giving me your opinions!! I know Babel will. She keeps it real! |

Like I said though each betta is different. I've had 1 that liked swimming in the bubble wall, but the one I tried to put in the 20 (because otherwise my sister was going to continue to keep him in a unchanged vase, unheated to around 58 ) threw a fit over the current from an AC 150.^_^ ![]() Current [link=Contest Rules]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Aquascaping/44382.html?200412022138" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] ![]() |
