I just bought a new freshwater goby and was wondering if anyone can give me some info. on it. It is about 4 inches long and has a blue or purple tint with somewhat black strips. The guy at the shop said the tank that it was in was at about 7.5 ph. He also said that it would get about twice it's size maybe. Things I would like to know:

1. Is this the correct ph I should be keeping it in?
2. Whats the best food?
3. What's a good temperature to keep that at?
4. How peaceful?

Anything else would help too. I will try to get some pictures up. I am trying to determine which tank I should keep it in. I have:

1 - 75gal planted w/ mostly gouramis - ph 7.0
2 - 55gal nothing in it and going to be planted - ph 6.8
3 - 55gal cichlid tank (convict, JD, Oscar, and GT) - ph 7.5 - not sure if the convicts would be too aggressive.

First thing you need to determine is what species of goby it is....that will tell you which tank to put it in, what the water parameters should be, and what it should be eating. Have you any photos?

It sounds like it could be one of the 'sleeper' gobies, but it is really going to be difficult to be sure on a description.

In the store he seemed to swim around in the mid area of the tank more instead of hanging around on the bottom.

Last night (before taking these oictures) I put him in the cichlid tank really quick to see what would happen. The oscar wanted to eat it! It's a small oscar but that slim goby looked like it could be slurpped right down. Oscars are funny. They float around all day all relaxed looking UNTIL THE FOOD HITS THE WATER! That fish is quick. In this case it wasn't food though. Got the goby out quick and put it in the gourami tank with the kribs I bought. He looks happen. What do I feed him!

it's chowin' on some shrimp pellets right now.

The tank at the lfs had a bunch of names on the tank like purple stripe goby, purple spotted goby, blue stripe goby, blue spot goby, bumble bee goby, etc. This was only one goby in the entire tank though. No scientific names were listed.

Hi
I picked one of those guys up a while back. He/she is a really cool fish. I couldn't find too much information on them. Here is a brief post on them. http://www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/forums/thread.asp?id=41261

I hope this helps.
