I have a 40 gallon tank which has been running for two weks without fish. I am ready to stock it now but don't know what fish to stock it with?
can anyone suggest some Peaceful fish for a planted tropical tank?

well.. what kind of fish do you like?? do you want a school? do you want a big friendly fish? a mixture? there are so many possibilities!

personally, i love pearl gouramis and loaches i'd vote for some of those =P

I'm new here and just set up a 55 gallon tank myself, but I love the "Harlequin Rasboras" I got in there. I only have 2 of the guys and was only gonna get about 5 or 6 of them but I may get more of those and less of another fish... not sure right now though...

I also have Zebra Danios which are real nice looking and good for starting a tank (inexpensive too!)

the rams and cardinals sound good but what other smal catfish are there other than cories.

i'd say a school of 6 cories
1 angelfish (i've heard for angelfish it's either 1 or >4 if you don't have a definite pair)
12 rasboras

I like the stocking option:
2 Blue, or Bolivian Rams
12 Cardinals
7 Cories
and maybe a few otos.
If you don't want cories instead you can have a BN or upside down cats like rabbit said.

Another fish I think you should consider are dwarf gouramis, they have great colour and only grow around 5cm.
I also like the Angelfish idea aswell.
