Hi friends My new tank arrives on this Sunday coming It is a biggy Its the Juwel Rio 400 if anyone has ever seen on. Well this is the situation I have at the moment I have brought such a big tank because at the moment I have two set ups and I want to put both lots of fish into the one tank. Now the problem is one of the tanks is right where the new tank is going to be placed so I was wondering would it be ok to pop the fish from that tank into the other tank just for one night. Will it hurt them to be over stocked for this short time? If I don't do it that way it will be even more stressful for them on the day as I would have to get them all out into a big bucket with a heater until I have got the new tank sorted. I think it would be kinder to get them out the day before and overstock just for one night so I can then get the tank out the way making it easier the next day to set the new tank up. What do you guys think good idea or bad idea.

this might sound like a strange question but do you have hard wood floors? when i went from a 20 to a 55 i just slid the 20 to a different corner and set up the 55.

Well thats a good idea but i don't think i would beable to do that as the tank i need to move is 42 gallons and stands on carpet. Thanks for the idea though

What & how many fish do you have in your 2 tanks?.

If it's possible, i would try to empty the tank that you are going to move, in some buckets & then fill it up again as soon as you move it. In this way, you can put the fish in the tank on the same day, as soon as it will be ready.

Then you'll have alot of time to place the new tank & cycle it slowly.

Don't move full tanks around, always empty them before moving them.

Just buy a couple of cheap storage bins - they're dead useful in this hobby time and time again. You can empty the water and fish into those, switch the tanks, and fill the new one with the old water and some new, dechlored water. It doesn't have to be completely filled, just enough to keep the filter running (and the tank more or less cycled, even if you're losing the bacteria that was on the substrate and so on). Later the buckets make lovely tubs in summer and holding tanks in winter, not to mention spares for fry-rearing, extra space for growing out some fish, separating aggressive ones while you rearrange territories, etc.

Are you keeping the other two tanks? What's going in them, if so? (Might I recommend shelldwellers?)

One question!

Can you lift one side either by yourself or with the help of another?

Yes? Then get to your local Wal*Mart and buy some "magic movers." The dern thangs can be out under all four tires of a car allowing you to push that puppy anywhere it could fit. Same thing goes for the tank. It will even slide on the carpet. You just have to get the "magic movers" under your stands supports.

Anywho, since I have them and it works, that's what I would do.

Well I have decided the best way for me to do it is to move all the fish out of the tank that's in the way and into the other tank just for one night. It won't mater that I lose that water as the other tank is 42 gallons as well so when I transfer the fish into their new tank which is around 90 gallons the water from that tank can go into it plus all the gravel and also the sponges from both the old filters. I know the new tank will cycle because it has its own built in filter so I will help it along as much as I can. You see if i do it this way at least the way is clear for the new tank to just be put in place there for making it easier.

Thank you Jason. All is well at the moment no change in water conditions yet but i am running one of the pumps from the other tanks in there at the mo so hopefully it should help the cycle.
