I dont understand why my Nitrite and Nitrate levels have not moved as I have not changed anything in the tank for about 3 weeks. The tank has been up and running since the 20/09. Its a 30 litre tank with only 1 baby guppy (born 1 week ago) and 4 neons. Can you advise? ![]() Last edited by leighton22 at 28-Oct-2004 12:37 |

Nothings changed, meaning you haven't done any water changes or maintence that might have caused a mini cycle after the tank cycled? Was the tank ever compeatly cycled? Zero ammonia, zero nitrItes and nitrAtes present? With such a small bioload it'll be difficult to cycle, additionally small tanks such as you've got will be difficult to keep stable. IMO&E that sized tank is best used for a betta that would recieve 100% weekly water changes, and the neons best in a larger school in a larger tank. ![]() [/font] ![]() |

If the aquarium was started on September 20, it's only been going a little over a month. If you're cycling with fish, then it can easily take two months. I've also found that my nitrate test isn't very reliable when nitrites are high. So be patient, wait it out, the nitrite spike means you're getting there. |
