Aquabid was already mentioned earlier on this thread. I agree that it is kind of expensive, though some sellers offer free shipping.

Okay.... after searching and searching the net, the best I could find was aquariumfish.net..... No minimum order - shipping $24.75.... Fish are pretty reasonably priced... I've placed an order for 2 green female Splendens Bettas @ $5.25 each, and 2 female Crowntail Bettas @ $9 something each.... Thus, for $54.75 (including shipping) I'm getting 4 fish - which averages out to about $14.00 a piece.... This is a lot higher than some would find in a local store I'm sure, but comparing to other online sites this was the best I could find..... Now all that's left is waiting for my fish to arrive...... I'll keep you posted - but I'd really appreciate any comments if any of you have dealt with Aquarium Fish before.....

Sly - the minimum order on that site is $29.99 and the shipping is $24.99 --- so not really feasible for the small orderer... But I do appreciate your trying to help!

Yes, they do and I have placed special orders with my lfs.... But I'm still unable to "buy" certain items.... For example, I would like to aquire a couple female Crowntail Bettas.... Since this is not a stock item for my lfs, I can not place a special order..... etc.
As far as buying locally, frankly I don't even know how to go about that! To the best of my knowledge, there are no fishkeeping groups, and no one ever advertises fish in the paper....
So I figure my best bet would be to find an online site that is reasonable..... Priced for people who only care to buy a couple of fish.....

Have you tried finding other people locally who you could order with? That would help the shipping cost.
My LFS will order fish for me as well, have you asked if they will do that for you?

I know what you mean. I only have one place to buy fish in my town. If I want something special, I have to travel quite a ways to get it.

I cant help u with finding a website but ur story sounds a lot like mine. I also live in a rural growing community with only 2 places to buy fish. I think this is a great topic.

Have you tried LiveAqaria? I forgot what minimum is but had good experience buying equipment/food from them.
