Ordering Fish Online | |
bagoegg Fingerling Posts: 26 Kudos: 16 Votes: 0 Registered: 12-Jul-2006 | I have always been tempted to purchase fish from some online stores. I have always passed and went with more "boring" fish from my LFS. Has anyone purchased fish online and was it a good experience? Do you recommend any sites over others? Thank you! |

Water is heavy, the fish can only be shipped certain days and in certain weather conditions, and it's got to be shipped overnight/next day air. The MINIMUM we've ever been charged at the shop was 26 dollars on a box, and it was a light one... Link me! |

bagoegg Fingerling Posts: 26 Kudos: 16 Votes: 0 Registered: 12-Jul-2006 | The only free shipping deal i have seen is on liveaquaria.com. If you spend $225 they will ship for free. I think I am going to try and purchase a pleco online. My LFS doesnt have any others but the standard and the only other ones I have seen for sale are some rubber lips at petsmart. Thanks all for the sites!/:' |

I have ordered saltwater fish a number of times and the shipping is always free if you spend a reasonable amount. I assumed it was the same for freshwater. For instance, saltwaterfish.com will ship free for only a $79 order. Sorry everyone! I wonder why saltwater fish are different than freshwater -Josh |

I have never used them, but have heard that aquariumfish.net and fish2u.com were both pretty good. I think the latter has higher prices though. I'd definitely check aquabid.com first and see if the fish you want is on there. Many people on there have lower shipping costs than the online stores. The shipping costs is why I haven't ordered any fish online yet...but soon I will have to order online as my LFS doesn't have a great selection. |

jmara Big Fish Posts: 438 Kudos: 431 Votes: 145 Registered: 06-Mar-2003 | When I had a FW tank the LFS was more than happy to order fish for me. I have done that with multiple LFS over the years. If they know they are going to sell the fish immediately, in my experience, they have no problem doing that. You might want to ask your LFS if they will order you what you are looking for. Just a thought -Josh |

I only have 1 LFS and I got them to order fish for me once but they died....I don't want to order from them again. I was just wondering if you've tried chain stores before. If the LFS will order for you, that is probably the best way to go. It saves you on shipping. |
