What are some kinds of Fish that will recognize you, follow you as you walk by the tank, and hand feed? You know like a Pet.

What size tank will it go in? There are alot of choices, but most are limited by tank size.

Oscars, angels, and alot of cichlids will follow you. But they need a big tank.

I've actually experienced that with numerous fish that I have had. However, at one time a had several archer fish, that when I sat in a chair near the tank to read the newspaper they would actually spit droplets of water through holes in the tank lid and hit the newspaper until I got up and fed them.

It always brought a lot of comments from any guests that might be visiting.

I hand feed every evening. The most confident would be my clown loaches, black ghost knife fish, blue rams and dwarf gourami. They will actually come right up and sometimes swim around inside my hand.

Bear in mind what Girliegirl mentioned about your tank size. That will determine what type of fish you can have.

I think that most fish will follow you as you approach the tank once they realise that when you appear that means food.

Have fun.

Pretty much every fish I've ever had. Almost all fish will follow you for food when your near the tank. That's just normal for fish. Most will also take food from your fingers. Aside from bottom dwelling fish and the shyest of fish they all fit your description. People tend to think of most cichlids and similar fish as being more like pets than other fish but even my tetras do those things. Although the worst one is my cleaner shrimp in the marine tank. He runs upsidedown on the top of the water waiting for food and if you handfeed him he hangs on your fingers while eating. I can't put my hand in the tank without him climbing on me to search my fingers for food.

Well what about a Parrot fish? I would probably have him alone in a 10g, I know that limits my options greatly.

For a 10g a betta is probably your best option.

Not for a 10g but my sev is definitely a pet. He only lets me hand-feed him, not the spouse He has a certain spot in the tank where he watches tv...I'm not kidding, if we change channels to something he doesn't like (color? brightness?) he sulks in his corner. He also sulks when the tv is shut off

Yeah...stick with a betta in a 10g tank. Most fish get too big for a tank that size.

Get a pond..if you don't already have one...and get some koi. My mom's friends have a pond with Koi and they will take food from your hand. They get excited when people come near the pond.

Actually, yeah, pretty much all fish will follow you. When I open the hood on my 55g, all the fish come up to the top to see what I have.

again parrots are not small cichlids, i have 2 main large groups over a 10 year period, and they all have gotton over 10 inches and are very powerful fish. a single would need at least a 55 gallon.
