Has anyone seen platy's actually give birth, I have read posts previously that have advised it normally takes place in the middle of the night.

Yesterday I did a normal water change, and my female platy started to swim up & down one side of the tank constantly, I was sort of watching when i though I saw somethng pop out of her. I watched a bit closer and sure enough she went through the same routine, and out came another little fry, I saw this one swim to saftey of a plant. I watched her for a bit longer and about every 5 minutes out came another fry, most became a snack for the other tank mates, but some managed to find shelter.

Has anyone else been fortunate enough to see the fry being born, it was amazing to watch these little fish darting around the tank trying to find shelter, all you can really see are these to big eyes. Very cool to watch happen.

Been a long time ago when I could sit and watch the fish for hours on end, but I still remember eagerly waiting for livebearers to birth their babies. Yup, I watched platies, guppies and swordtails come into the world. Like little miracles!

Congrats on witnessing the "magic"!

My old swordtails gave birth in front of me.

I've got a fever... and the only prescription... is more cowbell!
