My Polypterus senegalus(sp?) escaped from my tank today, it fell 3 feet to the floor, then walked out of the room and into the hall. Then it headed up the staircase. It made it up 2-3 stairs when I found it. I didn't know these guys could do that!

They're a lot more capable of moving out on land than one would think. Glad you found it in time before it became a piece of jerky!:%)

Unreal !! I've just googled them and found a site that said: "they have an incredible reputation as being great escape artists and can move on land for short lengths, so extra precautions should be taken with your tank cover." Guess you found that out, huh ?!

Oh to see my daughter's face or even better my cat's face if I had one of those and that happened !!!!!

Grats on finding it in time. I lost a 9" Lapradei because it escaped while i was at work and i didnt get home in time. I just got a new Endlicheri though, and you should see my tank. I have tupper-ware container lids all over it and i have them weighed down with rocks. If this one escapes then im gonna have to move onto making my own custom hoods that have no spaces.
