Does anyone have solution to losing power and keeping your fish alive besides a giant generator? Thanks.

As far as aeration is concerned they do make small battery operated air pumps that you can utilize to maintain some air flow into your tank, however they are pretty much limited in size so if you have very large tanks probably wouldn't be of much help. If the weather is cold and you are concerned about loss of heat, you can cover your tanks with blankets as an insultating factor and this will help to hold their temperature for a little while. Other than that keep your fingers crossed that the power isn't out long.

I got one of those battery-powered air pumps. It is only good for like 20 gallons though, I think. I bought it when we were supposed to have bad weather once...just in case the power went out...but it didn't. I bought enough airline to aerate 2 of my tanks (even though both are well over 20g ). They have limited life too (depends on the number of batteries you buy).

How much are those pumps? Also how long can a tank last without aeration? Thanks.

one benefit about my fishes which are 85% labyrith is during power outages.

a few years ago during a 19 hour black out in most of long island, i lost around 30 fishes worth around 600 usd for their sizes.

you do have the right idea getting battery pumps as something is better than nothing.

It states in the advertisement that it is rated for up to 80 gallons, however I have found that as with most specifications that they are for the most part over rated and I would lean towards a smaller size than what is stated.

Gaint generator?

A regular, smaller, and cheap generator will do for most tanks. The main draw is the heater and that is not much for medium sized tanks. I use a 200 watt heater for my 75 gal. You can easily get a 1000 watt generator for 2-3 hundred if you are so concerned. It will run your tank and other electrical devices in your home for prolong outage periods.

Youll not find an accurate one, it depends on stocking , temperature, and bacteria etc. I bought a small generator for £50 from ebay, and it does sound like a motorbike when in operation, but it runs all my tanks and leaves me enough wattage to watch the telly too If I hadnt bought it id have lost over 200 fish by now when we had a 2 day blackout. Id have paid the price 10 times over for the use its been to me. Get one, youll never regret it, besides its quite nice to have power when everyone else is stumbling around in the dark, panicking

Depends how long for, the bacterial colony in the filter will take damage if the outage is over half an hour, so id watch out for mini cycling.
