Snugz![]() Fingerling Posts: 15 Votes: 0 Registered: 22-Jan-2003 ![]() | HOw long would you quarentine new fish for before adding them to a populated tank to avoid deaths among your healthy fish? I've been going by 3 weeks but my hubby thinks thats too long. What do you think? |

We have had our tank up here for 15 years, and have never quarentined fish, and we have never had a die-off from adding a new fish. Also, a LFS that is kinda in my area (I have only been there 2 times) says that they have done studies, and say that quarintining is a waste of time, because it made no difference what-so-ever. I dont acclimate my fish either, same goes with the above (my tank, and the LFS's studies) |

Not having a heater is also a risk that some people take. If you don't have a heater are you guaranteed ich, not necessarily, but you're increasing the fishs risk of getting it. Are you guaranteed disease if you dont' q-tine, not necessarily but you increase the risk of it. To say that someone shouldn't do q-tine, IMO is just irresponsible. I have a very hard time believeing that it's harmful to the fish .^_^ ![]() [/font] ![]() |
Snugz![]() Fingerling Posts: 15 Votes: 0 Registered: 22-Jan-2003 ![]() | Well we didn't quarentine before but we recently took in about 75 guppies from a co-worker of mine who's moving. Every tank they were placed in had substanial loss amoung already established fish. The fish we received were carrying a bacteria that wiped out about 50 guppies, 7 cories, a weather louch, and one of my hubby's prized balas (he took that death hard)so now we play it safe. I played with fire and got burned, so now I carry a fire extinguisher. Last edited by Snugz at 24-Nov-2004 11:46 |

I find that parasitic diseases take a bit longer to show up. ___________________________________________ If at first you DO succeed, try not to look astonished. |
