In my 55 I currently have:

5 Australian rainbowfish
1 bristlenose pleco
2 dojo loaches
1 red tailed black shark
7 cory cats

With what I have now, would it be possible to add 6 red-eye tetras? Filtration is through an emperor 280 and an Eheim ecco 2236.

I would say you could. You might want to up the Rainbows numbers as well.

Much as I love rainbows its worth remembering their true adult sizes before making their shoals too large, one year its like fine, fine , fine, then kerpow! youre overstocked with some very fast swimming fish. Dont push the shoal to more than 6 or 7.

If youre having smallish tetras be aware that one day your RTBS might decide to carve a swathe through them during the night. They start off small and laid back, and then they tend to grow and do a spot of fish maiming during the night hours. If you want small species omit the RTBS.Eventually the RTBS will annoy the cories too. Might actually work better with the tetras, a couple of more rainbows, the loaches, a few more cories and no RTBS.

I would add the Corydoras school to 10 & then add another Rainbow & Loach. Just don't over stock it.
