This may be a silly question, but I need to know ... if a fish gets their tail fin (or any fin) nipped off ... will it grow back eventually? Thanks in advance for any helpful answers.

Yes, of course. I have a pearl gourami that i bought some time ago and didnt notice some of its fin was gone. It grew back all by itself.

I was hoping that was the case, but wanted to check. I just noticed that my one male tiger barb is getting picked on, one of the other fish nipped off his tail fin. This tiger barb is a dwarf compared to the other 4 tigers, for some reason it never grew like the rest. I see it eating all the time, though.

Keep an eye on the wound so it doesn't develop infection, and it should come back to normal in about 6 weeks.

It depends. If the 'webbing' of the fin is torn, it will grow back no worries. But if the 'ray(s)' of the fin are damaged, it may be iffy if it will grow back fully.
Usually fins grow back no problems.

Sometimes they will sometimes they wont. I think someone here once told me, at least with Bettas if they are bitten down to a certain point they will not grow back, or not as full.

My 2 Betta's Cy and Deshi got at eachother a couple times while I had them and Deshi's tail fins never fully grew back, only about half way.

Thanks everyone.
I have been checking on each fish several times a day and look for any problems. So far, so good.

melafix helps speed up recovery and reduces the chance of infection, and heals infection.
