While I was on a vacation, my female betta somehow got into the male's side of the tank. They spawned, and I just got home to find some free-swimming fry. This wasn't supposed to happen! I was going to set up the 20 gallon as a betta breeding tank, and all would go well. Now I have free swimming fry with nothing to feed them. I can get brine shrimp eggs, but I've heard it can take up to 2 days for them to hatch. I don't want to lose any more fry than I'm sure have died from lack of food. What can I buy that will save them?

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

tiny bit of cooked egg yolk

fouls the water quick tho, so get onto those bbs

Or check your local breeders, maybe someone has some microworms.

if there are live plants available, those can provide tiny foodbits too

brineshrimp eggs only take 24 hours to hatch but that is not a good first food for betta fry as they are so tiny. i use liquifry for a few days and then move on to bbs.

I also agree that the BBS will only take 24 hours or less to hatch. Just make sure the water you put them in is really warm- they hatch quicker. And I also agree that the BBS really isnt a very good first food. I have tried it and mine always die b/c the BBS is too large for them. and i really dont think they will eat the flake food even if you turn it to powder- they dont even know its food to it. You may be able to use the liquid food- but your best choice would have to be the egg yolk until you get another live food like microworms Good Luck!!

I feed new fry bbs all the time with no probs. Just put them in as soon as they hatch and are still small.
