I've got a baby rainbow and he is in a 10 gallon all to himself (for background and one pic, see this thread)

I'm curious as to why, when I have a low level lamp on, he stays near the surface and when I turn the tank light on and shut the lamp off, he immediately dives to the bottom and stays down there - in the light. Its not like he's trying to get away. Does he think he is less vulnerable to a predator from above down there?

TIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- I know he needs buddies. He'll get them when he gets big enough for me to deliver him to Pruess Pets - a quality pet store that actually quarantines their fish . I don't have a tank big enough to buy him some buddies, but can help him to a good fishy haven.

He's a rescue . He was just out of the larval stage when I took him from a dead frog's tank. We figure his egg hitched a ride on a plant or something because no one knows how he got in there. I kept thinking the frog would eat him.

He's about the size of a young white cloud up for sale. How long you figure before he'll get all his color so I know for sure if he's a bosemani or other?

He seems confident. Even when the light is on and he goes to the bottom, he doesn't hide in the hornwort or java moss. When the light is and the dim lamp is on, he stays in the upper strata skimming the surface. I suppose maybe nature is telling him there are more bugs at dawn and dusk
