Hi,
just wondering what is the best food to use to bring out the colours of Australian rainbowfish. I have 2 Banded rainbows (trifasciatus) and 3 chequered (M.s. inornata). At the moment they are getting flake food and pellets, which they love, but I dont think they are as colourful as what they should be. Let me know what food best brings out their colours.

thanx

First of all, Rainbow Fishes tend to achieve their best colour when sexually mature. So if you have juveniles, you'll have to be patient I'm afraid!

As for the best foods, I'd go for the recipe that works with my Lemons and other Tetras ... intersperse live foods such as Daphnia and Bloodworm with colour flakes. That combination works wonders on all kinds of fishes (my Pencil Fishes now have almost ruby red on their sides!) and chances are this would make even already colourful Rainbow Fishes come alive and glow with colour.

Hope this helps!
