When people are talking any size above 5 inches they are talking about with fins (my angels are 7" tall with fins and 3.5 - 4" body). I've seens some big angels, but none have a body size bigger than 5-6" at the most. Some wild angels or altums may get bigger but who knows. I already stated that my angels weren't behemoths. They aren't the biggest angels out there, because they are only a year old. I just assumed that by 9" people meant with fins, cause I've never heard anyone claim they had an angel with a body size of 9". So my angels aren't really what you are looking for. Anyways, here's a picture with a ruler. He looks about 6 inches with fins and a body size of about 3 inches in the picture. Rmember that he is about 5 inches away from the glass, and therefore looks a little smaller than what he really is. I don't think he/she would have liked it if I put the tape measure in the tank with them. Also, my marble angel is the older one, and has a little bigger body size, but doesn't have the wingspan. However, my marble didn't want to play "chase the hand" and was kind of frightened by the ruler. The picture is horribly glared, but it's the best shot I got to show his size. This one shows his impressive wingspan I added some more shots as I realized the last one was about 3 months old anyways. So you can check those out too. They are a little better quality. Tail fins vary too widely to constructively use them as a measure of maximum size. Exactly. On all scientific and research sites, measurements are in standard measurement. Total length is highly innacurate, because say someone developed a strain of angelfish that had extremely long filaments on its tail. To say that fish was 2' long would be incorrect, because it would really be the same size as an angelfish with short fins. Fishermen use total length to measure their catches because they want to make the fish seem bigger than it really is. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Tail fins vary too widely to constructively use them as a measure of maximum size. Two different angel (betta, guppy, etc.) varieties may grow up to be equally big, except that one has a large tailfin and the other doesn't. Are we then going to say that one grows two inches bigger than the other? We could, but it isn't a very useful thing to say in most contexts - i.e. determining bioload, working out whether a fish is at full size yet, comparing two varieties or two species for growth potential, etc. |

I'll take a picture with a ruler in it when the lights come on today. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

I was pretty surprised. just out of curiosity, what do those normally go for? they had them for $20, I would have expected them to be much more expensive! |
