I seen a redtailed fish in one of my LFS and I wanted to get it. But before I did so I wanted to do some researh on it. I know the first parts of its name is Redtail .........., I forget the last part. The fish is silver with obviosly a redtail. It looks like it could be a predator. This one was about 4-5".

im guessing the fish was either a pink-tailed characin (chalceus macrolepidotus) or a red-finned distichodus (distichodus notospilus). the PTC is predatory and attains a length of 9in, while the RFD is a peaceful herbivore that grows to 6in. can you provide us with further info? was the fish slender? did it have any markings?

I'd put money on it being a Pink-Tailed Chalceus. I've seen them labeled Red-Tailed Chalceus recently. They can get pretty big, so a roomy tank is a must.

Thank you very much, its the Pinked Charcin. I knew it as soon as I seen it lol. I did some research on it thanks to you guys, and I'm very interested in it. Do anyone have any personal advice for me of them. I will be putting one or two in my 75 gallon.
